President to Unveil New Healthcare Proposals
President Barack Obama is to unveil new proposals to advance legislation to overhaul the US healthcare system. On Thursday of this week. Mr Obama is to hold televised, bipartisan talks at the White House to discuss the issue. The insurance rate proposal would give the federal Health and Human Services Department – in conjunction with state authorities – the power to deny substantial premium increases, limit them, or demand rebates for consumers. Mr Obama’s latest plan is expected to require most Americans to carry health insurance coverage, with federal subsidies to help many afford the premiums. It would bar insurance companies from denying coverage to people with existing medical problems or charging them more. The White House is to release details of the plan on its website later today (www.whitehouse.gov).
General Petraeus Discusses Forecast in Afghanistan
Army Gen. David H. Petraeus said yesterday that the fight to win control of the southern Afghan town of Marja is just the beginning of a 12-to-18-month campaign to wipe out havens for the Taliban and other Islamist militants. “These types of efforts are hard, and they’re hard all the time,” Petraeus said. “I don’t use words like ‘optimist’ or ‘pessimist.’ I use ‘realist.’ . . . We’re in Afghanistan to ensure it cannot once again be a sanctuary for the kinds of attacks that were carried out on 9/11.” The flow of 30,000 new troops that President Obama recently ordered to the region is starting to produce “output,” with the Marja operation the “initial salvo” in the overall campaign, the head of the U.S. Central Command said yesterday.
Iran to Build New Uranium Enrichment Plants
Iran says it is planning to begin building two new uranium enrichment facilities. Iranian state media quote the head of Iran’s nuclear program, Ali Akbar Salehi, saying earlier today that construction should start in the next Iranian year, which begins in March. Iran announced plans in November to build 10 new enrichment plants in addition to its existing facility in Natanz as the country continues to defy international calls to halt enrichment. The United States and other world powers fear Iran’s increased enrichment work could be aimed at creating a nuclear weapon. Washington has been leading efforts to impose a fourth round of U.N. sanctions against Iran for its nuclear activities.

Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion.
For us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live, and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live … that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him. Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess his name. He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.
I looked and before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!
Pray for our nation generally today, for our citizens and those who govern, that we might become more of a people who honor the Lord.

Will God really dwell on earth with men?
Have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory. I will consecrate the Tent of Meeting. Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God.
You ascended on high, you led captives in your train, and received gifts from men, even from the rebellious, that you, O Lord God, might dwell there.
We are the temple of the living God. God has said, “I will live with them and walk with them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. You are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. The nations will know that I the Lord make Israel holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever.
In your prayers for our nation today, include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and members of the State Department charged with negotiating for peace in Israel.

Heavenly Father, as many of us look forward to the weekend today, we remember the millions for whom it may have far less appeal. For those who spend their days looking for work, or who may have given up in this economy, we ask that you would be with each and every one of them and thank you that they are not beyond your notice. We also ask that you help guide President Obama and his administration to create and execute wise policies that will allow long term solutions to the problems our nation faces. Amen.

President Obama to Announce Housing Relief
President Obama will announce a modest housing initiative during an appearance in Las Vegas today. The President has decided to release $1.5 billion from bank bailout funds to help struggling homeowners in five states – Nevada, California, Arizona, Michigan, Florida — that are hardest hit by the housing crisis. Mr. Obama will announce the so-called ‘’innovation fund’’ at a town hall style meeting here. The money will be redirected from the Troubled Asset Relief Program, known as TARP, and made available to state housing agencies, who will be expected to design programs to help homeowners having difficulty meeting their mortgage payments, either because they are unemployed, are burdened by second mortgages or owe more than their homes are worth. The program will apply to states where home prices have dropped more than 20 percent from their peak, the officials said. To get the money, state housing officials will be required to submit proposals to the Treasury Department, which will review and approve them.
President Obama to Announce Deficit Commission
President Obama created an 18-member fiscal commission yesterday charged with coming up with ideas to begin erasing $14.3 trillion in government red ink. “These are tough times, and we can’t keep spending like they’re not,” Obama said. The panel will be headed by Democrat Erskine Bowles, a former White House chief of staff, and Republican Alan Simpson, a retired Wyoming senator. The panel will have 16 more members: four appointed by Obama, and six each by congressional Democrats and Republicans. The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform will spend most of the year coming up with ways to slash the $1.6 trillion federal budget deficit and $14.3 trillion national debt. It needs at least 14 of 18 “yes” votes to send any recommendations to Congress. President Obama said the “quandary” of a government that routinely spends way more than it takes in must be addressed. When he took office last year, he said, the ratio was 25% of gross domestic product spent, 16% raised in taxes.
US Troops Capture Head of Aghanistan Taliban
The Operation Mashtarak which was launched to clear Marjah district of Taliban militants, entered its seventh day Friday while reconstruction have started. The Afghan-U.S. joint force is reportedly meeting determined pockets of resistance in both the northern and eastern parts of Marjah town.

White House Hails Capture of Taliban Commander
The White House called the capture of a top Taliban military commander “a big success” yesterday and said commanders reported a major offensive against the Taliban in southern Afghanistan was going well. “This was the number two Afghan Taliban operational, the operational chief. And it’s a big success for our mutual efforts in the region,” spokesman Robert Gibbs said, breaking the White House’s silence on the capture of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Pakistan this month. “I don’t want to get into operationally what might or might not come next, but obviously the capture of Mullah Baradar is, is a significant, a significant win,” Gibbs said at his daily news briefing. Baradar, the most senior Taliban commander ever arrested in Pakistan, is in Pakistani custody, and the White House knows of no plans for that to change, he said. Earlier yesterday, President Barack Obama received his regular update on the situation and Afghanistan and Pakistan from his national security advisers and commanders.
President Obama Talks About Stimulus Success
President Obama hailed the success of his much-debated $787 billion stimulus legislation yesterday, saying the one-year-old program has created or saved 2 million jobs and helped prevent a second Great Depression. President Obama’s remarks capped an extensive push by the administration to rehabilitate the public perception of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. “No large expenditure is ever that popular, particularly at a time when we are also facing a massive deficit,’’ the president said. “Our work is far from over, but we have rescued this economy from the worst of this crisis. The American people are rebuilding a better future. We will continue to support their efforts.’’
United States Posts 16th Straight Monthly Deficit
The U.S. posted a budget deficit for a record 16th straight month in January, signaling the economy’s recovery has yet to bolster government revenue. The excess of spending over revenue last month was $42.6 billion, narrower than the deficit of $63.5 billion in January 2009. Spending fell 14.4 percent for the month as financial rescue programs wound down, and revenue declined 9.2 percent. The gap will probably swell to a record $1.6 trillion during the fiscal year ending Sept. 30. The Treasury’s resources are under strain from the loss of 8.4 million jobs since December 2007, spending on economic stimulus programs, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and health-care costs.

“Sir, I am in the hands of a merciful God. I have full confidence in His goodness and mercy…The Bible is true. I have tried to conform to its spirit as near as possible. Upon that sacred volume I rest my hope for eternal salvation, through the merits and blood of our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
