As tax season approaches, pray for the integrity of taxpayers across the country in filing and paying their share.

THE WAR

In his State of the Union address, President Obama did not mention negotiations with the Taliban or Pakistan, but he did give mention of the cooperation between services in the armed forces and recognized the military in general.

U.S. and Afghan officials have shown flexibility in negotiations with the Taliban and the notorious outlawed Hizb-I-Islami group of radical militants that shares some of the Taliban’s anti-government, anti-foreigner views.

Pray about the situation on the ground in Afghanistan, the protection of our military, and for the secret peace talks.

TERRORISM

Pray about the results to the region of military and economic assistance to Syria from Russia, Iran and others.

THE ECONOMY

“You can call this class warfare if you want,” President Obama said in his State of the Union address, “but most Americans would call it common sense.” His clarion call was given for higher taxes on American millionaires.

Pray for our Congress as they work on reforming the American tax codes.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Hundreds of thousands of Egyptians took to the streets in cities across the country to mark the one-year anniversary of the uprising that ended the 30-year dictatorship of Hosni Mubarak, while many still protested ongoing military rule.

“Never has it been so clear Iran is seeking to build a nuclear weapon. Now is the time to act. Tomorrow is too late. The stakes are too high.” So spoke Israel’s ambassador the United Nations pressing for action to be taken against Iran.

HEALTH CARE

There are other ways to bring healthy people into the healthcare system if the Supreme Court strikes down the individual mandate in the healthcare law, according to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.

Most healthcare plans will be required to cover birth control without charging co-pays or deductibles beginning August 1, although religious-based hospitals and universities receive a one-year delay.

Pray for those in the Department of Health and Human Services as they begin enforcement of the healthcare laws.

And let us not grow weary of doing good,
for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone,
and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Al-Qaeda’s Yemeni affiliate has taken control of a city just 100 miles south of the capital, led by the brother-in-law of deceased U.S.-born cleric Anwar al-Awaki, whose group overran the police station and prison.

THE ECONOMY

The World Bank has warned of a possible global slump in economic growth and urged developing countries to prepare for shocks that could be more severe than the 2008 crisis, especially noting Brazil and India for grave slow-downs.

In an ominous sign for America’s economic growth prospects, many Americans are paring back contributions and growing numbers are borrowing from their retirement accounts, raiding other savings, and increasing credit balances.

Pray for financial wisdom on the part of American citizens, even though weary of lagging economic growth.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

President Barack Obama has called for direct talks with Iran in a secret letter to the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader that also warned Iran against closing the Strait of Hormuz, according to an Iranian lawmaker.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his parliament the current sanctions against Iran are not going to stop its nuclear program, and warning President Obama against hesitations due to election-year politics.

HEALTH CARE

Public and private healthcare spending totaled $2.6 trillion in 2010 (the last year with completed tallies), representing 17.9% of the total U.S. economy, and an increase over the prior year of 3.9%. Increases are likely for 2011 and 2012.

The Obama Administration is poised to require drug companies to disclose payments they make to doctors for research, consulting, speaking, travel and entertainment, saying those payments equal millions of dollars annually.

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known to God.

Pray for Israel which is best on every side with violent oppression and Islamic extremism.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has no plans for a recall of Brazilian orange juice concentrate, but it would stop at the border any that tested positive for a fungicide being used on Brazilian trees to combat mold.

Packaging problems at a drug manufacturing plant may have resulted in powerful prescription painkillers ending up in packages of Excedrin, NoDoz, Buffering and Gas-X Prevention, leading to a recall by the FDA.

Pray for the workers in the agencies charged with oversight of American health and welfare.

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

THE WARS

NATO military planners are working out logistics for removal of $30 billion worth of state-of-the-art equipment from Afghanistan by the end of 2014, the deadline set by the administration for ending efforts there.

Pray about the way in which reductions in government spending may impact national security.

TERRORISM

The State Department said sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program were starting to bite and that Iran was attempting to create a distraction by its naval “war games” at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

Pray about the immorality of repressive leaders in Syria, Iran, North Korea and elsewhere in the world.

THE ECONOMY

Automakers last year had their best U.S. sales since 2008 as the industry continues to recover from its recession-caused tailspin, although auto executives are cautious about anything stronger for 2012.

Gasoline could cost 4.5 cents a gallon more starting as early as this week because Congress declined to renew the 30-year-old federal subsidy for ethanol. U.S. ethanol is made primarily of corn.

Pray about the nature the U.S. economic recovery may have, and its inflationary impact potential.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

An investigation found that Beduin tribes have been bombing natural gas pipelines from Egypt to Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan in an effort to extort protection money from the Egyptians. Resumption of gas delivery is postponed.

Pray that 2012 would provide more opportunities for out-of-work Americans and a steady economic increase.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Israel and the U.S. are discussing “red lines” in Iran’s nuclear program that, if crossed, would justify a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Israel and the U.S. disagree on how far along Iran is with its nuclear program.

The U.S. is quietly engaged in talks with Egypt’s ruling military council geared at ensuring that the country’s democratically elected regime will maintain its peace treaty with Israel.

Pray about the Arab Spring demonstrations and successes and their continuing impacts into 2012.

HEALTH CARE

Medical and legal experts estimate the failure of all-metal hip replacements may cost taxpayers, insurers, employers and others billions of dollars in coming years, contributing to the high costs of health care, especially for seniors.

Starting in 2012, a medical care reform act fee will be added to insurance plans for research to find out which drugs, medical procedures, tests and treatments work best, a program that is being eyed with some suspicion.

Pray as the Supreme Court in 2012 considers the constitutionality of the individual mandate for health care.

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
