Why Wait?

“I can do it myself!” is a phrase often heard from children when attempting to assist them. It leaves you in a position of silently watching them struggle…wanting to help, but waiting for them to ask. So much frustration could be spared if they would simply be open to instruction. How often have you done the same thing as an adult…waiting until reaching your exasperation point before calling upon God for help?

When he calls to me, I will answer him.

Psalm 91:15a

Unfortunately, it can sometimes require struggle and difficulty to bring you to a place of recognizing the need for wisdom beyond what this world holds. It is there, at the end of yourself, where you can say, “God is God and I am not.” Today’s verse reminds you that when you acknowledge Him as Lord and cry out to Him, seeking His face, it will not be in vain. He will hear your voice and will respond. He is longing for you to let Him lead.

This coming weekend, spend time calling out to God, listening and watching for His response. Pray also for America’s leaders, that they will once again see the need for the Lord and seek His guidance.

Desperate Times

Is God asleep when it comes to answering your prayers? Are you having a hard time being devoted to prayer? Dr. David Jeremiah, noted pastor, speaker and radio Bible teacher, says that if you’re not careful, discouragement can slip in like a fog and chill your prayer life.

“When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Luke 18:8

Jesus taught the parable preceding today’s verse specifically to keep you from losing heart when you pray. He’s telling you that prayer is far too important to allow yourself to be disheartened! Just as the woman was desperate to have the judge rule in her favor [and he finally did because of her persistence (Luke 18:5)], you are incredibly in need of the help only the Lord can and will provide.

He is the only source that can make you what you ought to be, give you the power to fight the daily battles, and change the hearts of those for whom you pray. You may not witness the fruit of your consistent prayer – at times God works outside of your view – but He wants intimacy with you and for you to be desperately dedicated to prayers of intercession for the nation and its leaders. Let him find you faithful!

Prayerful Independence

The faith of America’s forefathers echoes from a not so distant past. A young John Hancock’s hope for his country was its independence from Great Britain. His desire as President of the Continental Congress was finally realized on July 2, 1776 when the colonies voted on a resolution declaring their independence. Two days later, the Declaration of Independence was officially ratified by the Continental Congress, and the United Colonies of America became the United States of America.

“By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended… And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead..”

Hebrews 11:4

Earlier, Hancock’s Congress invoked the aid of God in this moral cause for independence, calling for a “Day of Public Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer” on July 20, 1775, urging citizens to “confess and bewail our manifold sins and transgressions, and by a sincere repentance and amendment of life, appease [God's] righteous displeasure, and through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, obtain his pardon and forgiveness.”

Just as God commended the faithful of Israel, surely He has done so for America’s forefathers. Pray sincerely and in the same faith-filled spirit of yesterday’s leaders for this land and the freedoms you enjoy on this Independence Day.

No Mistake

It was a nice idea – the one to feature the beautiful Grand Canyon on a new 60 cent postage stamp. The United States Postal Service liked it so much, they printed 100 million of the stamps at a cost of $500,000. It was only then that someone noticed that the stamp featured the label: “Grand Canyon, Colorado.” Embarrassing, considering that the Grand Canyon is, of course, located in Arizona.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Proverbs 3:5

Not everyone who makes a mistake has the misfortune of seeing it compounded 100 million times, but any mistakes can be costly. They most often occur when you lean on your own understanding. That’s why it is important to take every important decision in prayer to your Lord.

Don’t ever assume your problem is too small to entrust to God – He cares about the smallest details of your life. Likewise, never think a problem is too big. If all believers in Christ prayed for the issues confronting our nation and its leaders faithfully, God would undoubtedly pour out His mercies and blessings as never before. He is the One who never makes a mistake … so recommit on this Independence Day weekend to trust Him with all your heart.

Faith-filled Prayer

During this year’s election cycle, whom do you trust? Which candidate will serve your state and nation the best? Who will deliver on their promises? Or whose mind will be changed once in office?

“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”

 Psalm 118:8

Sometimes it’s very disappointing to rely on man. Who then is worthy of your confidence? There is only one answer! God … your ever-present help in trouble, the One who does what He says and keeps every promise He has ever made. There is none other than the Lord who will always be faithful, who will always love you and want only the best for you, who will take care of your every need. No man can or will do that for you!

This is your great assurance! Every prayer you utter in faith goes to the God that can deliver. The Lord remains the same yesterday, today and forevermore faithful! Therefore, take refuge in His Word, meditate on it, repent of your sin and the sins of this nation. Be obedient to the Lord’s leading. Pray in faith for your family and for America. God – who sees beyond what you or any person can see – is trustworthy.
