Frequently Asked Questions
— General Questions about PPT —
Q: Why pray for the President and other leadership of the country?
A: The Bible is full of examples and exhortation for the praying of those in leadership. The challenges for leaders are clearly seen throughout its pages and stories; James, a brother of Jesus, cautions those who would become leaders to weigh such a decision carefully because of the increased risks, burdens, and obligations (James 3:1). There are also abundant lessons on the importance of thinking of others, considering their situations and supporting them through prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:11 – 13, Hebrews 13:17 – 18). It is also clear that such service is for more than the leaders themselves, but also to God, who places and influences all leaders (Proverbs 21:1, Romans 13:1). All of these principles are summed up in 1 Timothy 2:1 – 2:
“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
Q: Is The Presidential Prayer Team an official department of the White House?
A: PPT is not officially connected to the White House. Under the ministry’s leadership, we are working on developing important strategic relationships with the White House and other government bodies in the present Administration. Through these, we hope to offer support and encouragement through prayer as well as maintain a presence in the nation’s capital.
The Team has historically enjoyed such relationship during the prior Presidency. Since our inception after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and culminating in the Final Amen – a time of prayer at the President’s request and as his final formal meeting in the Oval Office – PPT has sought and cultivated support of the nation’s leaders through prayer and other spiritual means.
Q: Which Bible translation do you use?
A: PPT generally uses the New International Version when referencing the Bible. Whenever other translations are used, we make note of which translation it is.
Q: How is the Presidential Prayer Team funded?
A: In supplying up-to-date matters of importance for prayer, PPT is a nonprofit ministry that exists exclusively through the goodwill giving of its members. Though the tools and services to enhance your prayer efforts are offered free of charge, they do require funds to develop and maintain. We work to regularly and consistently deliver value to you.
PPT also commits to financial integrity. We file an annual IRS disclosure Form 990 that reflects costs and use of funds. This form is also provided to most States and recorded within each Secretary of State’s office. The ministry is overseen by an independent and voluntary Board of Directors made up by Christian leaders throughout the United States.
